Defensive Trump Tricks 1: Defensive Ruffing (or not) |
Taught by: Cornelia Yoder |
Description: Everyone loves to lead a singleton, have partner win the A and give them a ruff! But how many times have you led a singleton, only to have declarer win, draw trumps and then run a lot of tricks in the suit you helpfully set up for him? This segment of Defensive Trump Tricks will focus on when to try for defensive ruffs (and when not), and how to communicate with partner to get them. You will also learn when not to ruff or overruff to maximize your defensive trump tricks. This class will be repeated at 7:00 pm (New York time) each Tuesday.

Defensive Trump Tricks 2: Promotions and Uppercuts |
Taught by: Cornelia Yoder |
Description: An uppercut is when a defender ruffs with a high trump to force declarer or dummy to ruff higher than s/he would like, and thereby promote a smaller trump in partner's hand. Trump promotions force declarer to ruff high or be overruffed, promoting a smaller trump to a winner. This segment of Defensive Trump Tricks will focus on recognizing uppercut and promotion opportunities and how to execute them for extra defensive trump tricks. This class will be repeated at 7:00 pm (New York time) each Tuesday.

Defensive Trump Tricks 3: The Forcing Defense |
Taught by: Cornelia Yoder |
Description: When you have length in trumps, you can sometimes force declarer to ruff enough times that you end up with more trumps than the declarer has left. This causes declarer to lose control of the hand and allows you to ruff in and cash tricks in your own suits. This segment of Defensive Trump Tricks will focus on when and how to play a forcing defense and create havoc for the poor helpless declarer. This class will be repeated at 7:00 pm (New York time) each Tuesday.
